The Wild Geese Motorcycle Club rode from the Mary Cairncross Park on the Sunshine Coast to Byron Bay in May 2015 with eleven bikes starting and a few day riders dropping out along the way. The route wound through the back blocks of both Qld. and northern NSW (including the legendary Lions Road) along many very interesting roads with a minimum of straight sections. The section from Nimbin to Clunes along Tuntable Creek Rd. was an education for some with some moisture, moss and gravel to be experienced. The pace was on a bit at this stage as darkness was approaching. Nevertheless, we managed to cruise into the camping ground just in time to check in and raise the tents before the rain started.
A meal later was enjoyed at the local Hogs Breath Cafe and then a welcome bed. The rain managed to clear before we packed up in the morning.
There featured many interesting sights and a lot of great company. From Byron, we all scattered to various destinations with some returning home, some heading south to Grafton or Dorrigo and some to Glen Innes in the near west. From there the Glen Innes troop headed north. THIS MAP does not show the boring highway travel sections nor the routes taken by the others. In total, I managed around 1,200 klms. The Dorrigo/Glen Innes riders should have totalled more. I can recommend the Rock Valley road between the Lismore/Casino road and Cawongla on the Kyogle road to Murwillumbah. VERY nice indeed.
In summary, this was a great experience and other members should come along more often. Good fun and top company. Here are a few images, but there will be more on the Facebook page.
