Bunya Mountains Ride April 2015

Thursday 16th April dawned fine and perfect for a brilliant ride through the hinterland and southern reaches of the Sunshine Coast by no less than 14 bikes of all types and breeds (rather like their owners!). Some of us started from Yandina and and wound our way up the range to Mary Cairncross Park where a slightly larger group awaited.Stuart quickly outlined the ride plan and away we went down Stanley River Road andthen down to the D'Aguilar Highway where we turned west towards Kilcoy. Then a left turn to sweep down the Somerset Dam road and along until we reached Esk where we stopped to wait for Sue who decided she prefered the long way down there. We were starting to worry a bit until she showed up all fit & well.

Once underway again, the Geese turned towards Crows Nest to the west. Some great twisties along the way saw us enjoying the day more and more. A fuel stop there and then we pushed on and met up with Red Rob a little down the road. From Crows Nest, we branched off to take in the back roads through Haden, Peranga and over to the Bunya Mountains Road. This last section did supply the group with some fun little stretches of dirt roads for the BMW GS and V-strom riders to play on.The Ducati Diavel and Gold Wing maybe not so much.

Once we started to climb the mountain proper, we immediately felt the difference in temperature as the cool mountain air swept through our coats. Lovely! All too soon, we arrived at the resort/camping grounds which impressed everybody with the lush green surroundings and rich plant life. There are many campsites, cabins and houses for rent here, but an air of peace and quiet pervades.

A hearty lunch was enjoyed by all and I think most promised them selves a return trip out here for sure. The home run was back through Maidenwell, Yarraman, Kilcoy and home. My total was 580klms for the run. I will post a link to the GPS track later.Thank you to all who attended and especially to Stuart for a fine job of organising the ride.

a.k.a. Phot Goose. I am still trying to decide if I am a motorcyclist or a photographer. Maybe both. I have been riding for about 50 years on about 37 bikes at last count. A lot of dirt (which some may have noticed I favour!) and a great deal of tar roads have passed beneath my wheels in that time. I am currently favouring the BMW range after owning 7 of them throughout my life. This club allows us to gather with like minded people on a range of bikes to enjoy the bikes, roads and good company without egos getting in the way.
