Paradise Dam Ride
The Wild Geese team set out once more for a great motorcycle ride north to Paradise Dam on the Burnett River through Ban Ban Springs and then back through Biggenden, Woolooga & Widgee.
Roads varied from dead smooth bitumen to gravel and the weather was perfect with sunshine and cool temperatures all the way. We set off from Yandina after a hearty breakfast and ventured northish via Gold Creek Rd. and Skyring Creek Rd. to the Mary Valley Rd. where we turned west towards Widgee along the now familiar Lawson Road which we all enjoy.
Reaching Widgee, we pushed straight on to the west with a turn along the Wide Bay Highway out to Kilkivan, then a kink to Tansy which holds one of the nicest motorcycle roads in the country, but it is only about three kilometres long! From there to Ban Ban Springs the road is a bit on the dull side, so we stopped for fuel and food for a while, then headed east towards Biggenden.
From there the road gets much more interesting for motorcyclists as it winds through the hills towards the dam. After a small diversion down an old gravel dam construction road, we duly arrived at the dam's tourist park and kiosk in glorious Queensland winter sunshine. 30 minutes of enjoying the view and generally ribbing each other and we were away again back to Biggenden for fuel and the return south via Woolooga and once again, Widgee and home. All in all, a great day out with good friends under perfect conditions to the tune of about 500 klms.
