ild Geese

Thursday 7th January

Be there or be square! It was an eye-gouging, mother-busting, unholy mad son of a bitch of a ride… And I’m feeling tired, I’m exhausted, but also I’m happily satisfied emotionally and physically…
And after a cup of tea and a Bex and good lie down I feel peaceful and reflective while contemplating another Wild Geese crowning achievement…

Yes I know what you’re thinking, it was raining and no one could go riding last Thursday. Wrong!

It was only raining in some parts of the coast, mainly the north-eastern corner and me, Mike, Lee and Angus turned up at Yandina ready to rock and roll.

There was only a few spits at Yandina and it looked good on the radar over the range so we went out to Kenilworth for a first stop and from there it looked OK south so we went down through Postman’s Track, Mary Smokes Creek and on into Kilcoy.

The guys wanted to go to Linville for lunch so out west we went and got there about 11:45 and had a good feed.

As we sat out on the side verandah I said anyone up for an adventure nodding north towards Elgin Vale via the Western Branch of the Brisbane River. Mike had to get back to the coast for commitments but me, Lee and Angus pressed on through the bitumen and gravel up to Elgin Vale, Kinbombi Road and Kilkivan to Widgee and home to the coast…

And we rode all day without a drop of wet weather (I had open mesh jacket and mesh pants on all day) and mostly dry roads with only a few patches of moisture to watch out for. The 30kms of gravel was just right, not wringing wet and not dusty either…

It was a seriously good ride and Angus got to see a few places he hadn’t seen before as well…

PS: Also a few of us got out for a few hours on the bikes on Wednesday afternoon too since we thought the weather bureau might be right about Thursday being a proper wet day so we had a bonus ride Wednesday as well that was a real good squirt on the bikes…
